Measure your waist at its skinniest part to get an accurate reading. Health.com reveals this advice to check if you are obese or not: “You can use a measurement called a body mass index, or BMI, to decide whether your weight is dangerous to your health. The BMI is a combination of your height and weight. If you have a BMI of 30 or higher, your extra weight is putting your health in danger. If you are Asian, your health may be at risk with a BMI of 27.5 or higher.” If you know you are obese, talk to your doctor about the possibility of weight loss surgery. There are many surgery options to choose from and finding the right one for you is important. You should research your options and your doctor.

Post Bariatric Surgery Support Groups Offer Practical Help

Support groups can bring practical help and balance to a Weight loss surgery patient’s life and change the way they think. For many weight loss surgery patients, the first 3 months after their operation can be the hardest. Patients may not have expected to encounter struggles post-op and may even have had a little buyer’s remorse. They often experience cravings and depression follow weight loss surgery, and this can be hardest immediate period after their operation.

The solution for such patients is to link with a support group designed for post-operative weight loss surgery. As a matter of fact, any such group, connected to bariatric surgery in any way, can be helpful. What’s most important is the content of the gatherings. Bariatric support group offers patients a chance to share their testimonies. It also provides a forum for input from visiting psychologists, physical trainers and chefs. Some groups even take field trips to grocery stores, gaining practical knowledge on daily activities that help participants in patients’ new lifestyle. They can find new friends and learn how to not regain weight. Support groups understand the mind, which is just as critical as the body.

The letter mentions that obesity related disease is costing the nation an estimated $147 billion each year. Study: Weight Loss Surgery Cuts Cancer Risk in Women

Weight-loss surgery can sometimes reverse type 2 diabetes and ease other obesity-related diseases and conditions. Obesity is a known risk factor for colon, breast, endometrial, kidney and esophageal cancers. New research suggests that obese women who undergo bariatric weight-loss surgery experience a 42 percent drop in their cancer risk - Men, for some reason, didn't get the same benefit from the surgery.

The majority of participants in the study had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (commonly known as stomach stapling); some had adjustable gastric banding, in which a silicone band is placed around the top of the upper part of the stomach to restrict food intake. Fewer than 300 people in the study had gastric bypass surgery, a more dramatic technique in which the surgeon creates a golf-ball-shaped pouch to curb food intake. Although a reduction in cancer risk was seen with all three techniques, some experts believe that gastric bypass surgery may one day be shown to be more effective than the other two.

Obesity increases the risk of cancer and more aggressive screening is needed for obese people. Obesity International Solutions provides safe and affordable weight-loss surgery procedures in Mexico. Contact us for FREE Consultation.
