First Lady Michelle Obama Launches Campaign Against Childhood Obesity

First lady Michelle Obama: 'Let's move' and work on childhood obesity problem.

Already an outspoken advocate for healthy living, First Lady Michelle Obama has launched Let’s Move, a new campaign to promote healthy lifestyle habits for children and combat childhood obesity. First lady Michelle Obama wants to bring quality staples to the "food deserts" of America. The White House is also lending its support, with $650 million in stimulus funds earmarked for prevention programs against smoking and obesity.

Up to 30 percent of U.S. children are overweight, and childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 25 years. Part of the reason that one-third of children today are obese is their lifestyle habits, including spending seven and a half hours per day perched in front of electronic entertainment. "We don't eat food any more — we eat food products," Huckabee said after his interview with First Lady Michelle Obama. Child obesity is a serious issue.
